Freight factoring companies with fast processing times: how same-day pay really works

Every factor says it pays fast. What decides whether money lands today is a cut-off time, a bank transfer method, the day of the week and clean paperwork. Here's how those pieces fit, so a Friday delivery on any truck, from a hotshot to a reefer, turns into money when you need it.

How much cash is stuck with brokers?

Invoiced each week

$8,800

On 30-day broker terms, about $37,700 is out at any time, waiting to be paid. EXAMPLE estimate.

Same-day vs next-day

Same-day, next-day or quick pay: when the money lands

Pick the day you upload your paperwork, whether it's before or after the factor's cut-off, and whether a bank holiday is coming. The bars show when the money lands under four common setups.

When does the money land?

EXAMPLE
  • 24/7 instant fundingSame day

Some factors fund around the clock, weekends and holidays included

  • Same-day factoring (wire or same-day ACH)Mon

Funds the day it's approved if paperwork beats the cut-off on a business day

  • Next-day factoring (standard ACH)Tue

Approved, then sent by ACH that lands the next business day

  • Broker quick payThu

EXAMPLE of a few business days; each broker sets its own terms

EXAMPLE schedule assuming paperwork is approved without questions. Real timing depends on your factor's cut-off, your bank and the broker.

Try a Friday afternoon after the cut-off. Standard ACH can push the money into the next week, while a factor funding around the clock pays the same evening. Then try a Tuesday morning before the cut-off: most setups land within a day, and the gap between them nearly disappears.

That's the honest picture of speed. Most of the difference shows up at the edges, late in the day, late in the week and around holidays. If your loads deliver at those times, speed is worth paying attention to. If they don't, a lower fee may matter more than a faster transfer.

One more thing the bars assume: paperwork that's approved without questions. A missing signature or an unclear photo adds a round of back and forth, and that delay is the same whichever setup you choose. Clean paperwork is the cheapest speed you can buy.

Quick pay compared

Broker quick pay vs same-day factoring

Quick pay is a broker paying you early in exchange for a fee taken off the invoice. There's no contract and no notice of assignment, and it's chosen load by load. When a broker offers it at a fair price, it's a useful option for the occasional load.

The differences show up in three places. Speed: quick pay terms vary by broker, from a day or two to a week or more, while a fast factor funds within a day for every broker it approves. Coverage: only some brokers offer quick pay, and fees vary from one to the next. Collections: with quick pay, any problem with the invoice is yours to sort out; with factoring, the factor chases the broker.

Compare them per load. Take the quick pay fee and the payment time a broker offers, and set them against your factoring fee and funding time on the same invoice.

Fees for speed

What faster money costs

Wire or same-day fees

Many factors charge a flat fee per wire or same-day transfer. Paid once a day, it's small. Paid on every invoice, it adds up.

Instant payment fees

Instant transfers to a debit card or account, where offered, may carry their own fee or a percentage.

Included in the rate

Some factors include same-day funding in the factoring rate. A higher rate with free transfers can cost less overall.

Fee amounts for faster transfers are rarely published on factoring websites; they appear in the quote and the contract. Ask for them in writing, then enter them in the calculator on factoring rates to see the real monthly cost of speed.

What RTS Financial publishes

  • Upload invoices and get paid the same day, or get cash in 24 hours or less.
  • RTS buys the invoice and advances more than 90 percent of the total within 24 hours.
  • Invoices are submitted through the RTS App.

Weekends and holidays

Weekend and holiday loads

Trucks run on weekends. Banks mostly don't. Standard bank transfers move on business days, so paperwork uploaded on a Saturday, or before a bank holiday, often waits until the next business day to be sent, and then the transfer itself can take another day.

Some factors fund around the clock, including weekends and holidays, often through instant payment methods. Others review paperwork on weekends but send money on the next business day. Ask your factor which it is, and check the published holiday schedule so a long weekend doesn't surprise you.

Reefer carriers in produce season and anyone running weekend deliveries should weigh this more heavily. A Friday delivery that pays on Tuesday is four days of fuel and payroll you have to cover yourself.

First invoice

Why the first funding takes longer

Same-day funding is what happens once everything is set up. The first invoice with a new factor almost always takes longer, for reasons that only happen once.

Set up factoring before you need it. Apply, sign and get your brokers' notices of assignment out before the load you're counting on delivers, and the first invoice will move almost as fast as the hundredth.

The same applies to each new broker. The first load you haul for a broker the factor hasn't worked with may need a credit check and a verification call, so allow extra time on that one invoice.

  • Account setup. Your authority, insurance and bank details are checked and the contract signed.
  • Broker approval. The factor checks the broker's credit before buying its first invoice from you.
  • Notice of assignment. The broker has to receive the NOA so it pays the factor, not you.
  • Verification. The first load from a broker is often confirmed with the broker directly.

Cut-offs

Cut-off times and time zones

A same-day cut-off is the latest time paperwork can arrive and still be funded that business day. Each factor sets its own, usually in its own time zone. A cut-off in the early afternoon Eastern time is late morning on the West Coast, so a California delivery after lunch may already be too late.

Find your factor's cut-off, convert it to your local time and keep it on your phone. When a delivery is running close, upload from the receiver's lot instead of waiting until you're parked for the night. Those few minutes can be the difference between money tonight and money in two days.

Driver routine

A same-day routine every driver can follow

  1. 1. Before unloading, check the rate con for anything that needs proof: detention times, lumper, extra stops.
  2. 2. At the dock, get the POD signed, dated and printed, and collect every receipt.
  3. 3. In the lot, photograph each page flat and in good light, then upload before you drive off.
  4. 4. Before the cut-off, check the factor's app shows the upload as received, not just sent.

Avoid delays

What slows down a same-day payment

  • Uploading after the cut-off, or on a weekend with a business-day factor
  • A POD without a signature, date or printed name
  • A blurry or cropped bill of lading
  • An invoice total that doesn't match the rate con
  • Missing lumper or scale receipts for lines on the invoice
  • A broker the factor hasn't approved or can't reach to verify

Almost all of these are fixed at the dock in a few minutes. The fastest factor in the country can't fund an invoice it can't verify.

Dispatch too

Clean rate cons, faster money

Many delays start on the rate con: extras that were agreed on the phone but never written down. Our dispatch desk gets detention, stop-offs and lumper terms on the rate con before a load reaches you, for every truck from 26 ft box trucks to step decks. Nothing is booked until you say yes, and the broker sends the rate con straight to you. The fee is 5% of gross for one truck with authority older than 6 months. See the factoring hub or start dispatch.

Fast factoring: straight answers

Q01How fast do factoring companies pay?
Fast factors fund clean invoices the same day or within about a day, and some advertise round-the-clock funding. The real answer depends on when you upload, whether the paperwork is complete, the factor's cut-off time and how the money is sent. A first invoice with a new factor usually takes longer, because the account and the broker need to be set up first.
Q02What is the cutoff time for same-day funding?
Each factor sets its own, so ask yours and write it down. Paperwork uploaded after the cut-off is usually processed the next business day. Cut-offs are often set in a particular time zone, so a carrier delivering on the West Coast may have less of the afternoon to work with than one in the East.
Q03ACH vs wire: which is faster?
A wire is usually faster, often arriving the same business day, but it commonly costs more per transfer. A standard ACH transfer is cheaper and usually lands the next business day. Same-day ACH sits in between where offered. Some factors also offer instant payments to a debit card or bank account, sometimes for a fee.
Q04Why was my factoring payment delayed?
The usual reasons are paperwork: a missing POD signature, a blurry bill of lading, an invoice that doesn't match the rate con, or a missing lumper receipt. Others are timing, such as uploading after the cut-off, a weekend or a bank holiday, and a broker the factor hadn't approved yet or couldn't verify. Ask your factor exactly what held it.
